I painted this work in the raw and wonderful reality of a pregnant woman.
Poppaea, wicked and ambitious woman, depraved and fierce. From prostitute to wife of Emperor Nero in a crescendo of nefariousness and bloody intrigue. I wanted her lying on a bed the color of darkness, unaware of the fate that awaits her. A cruel death, a few days before she can give birth, in fulfillment of a life lived beyond all limits. The scene is completed with the divided Roman symbol, of an Empire at the beginning of its inevitable decline.
