Narcissus

Can an optical effect fool Death? I think so. The mirror does not send back to Narcissus his image but that of the beholder and thus he does not discover the beauty of himself but of the world. His own beauty would cause him to die unknowingly, plunge him into an abyss from which he would not be able to re-emerge. Narcissus’ salvation is possible only by his opening himself to others without seeking comparison. One’s own beauty is not the ultimate, egoistical goal; it must become a gift for Humanity.
